We bought an amaryllis from Trader Joe’s. Thought it was dead. Then it bloomed.

Take that, 2020!

It’s a nice thing to learn from. My main resolution this year is to remember that when I loosen my grip and let life take its course, things tend to go better.

So far, it’s worked out. We’re expecting our first child in March, and I chose to start my own business 18 months ago doing communications consulting. If you’d told a younger version of myself that I’d handle the pressures with grace, I would have been surprised.

I haven’t even gone bonkers. I trust myself to handle things as they come up. And I believe that I’ve got what it takes to navigate the storms that come.

That’s a new state of mind, in my world. And yoga is so useful for loosening the old “grip.”

People have been practicing the physical yoga postures for thousands of years because they work. That wisdom is passed down through the postures, and the effect they have on the body, and the mind. Then there’s meditation, and turning the attention and focus inwards. Finding some peace, even in the storm.

I’ve also found that daily meditation with headspace, 20 minutes, every day, no matter what, first thing in the morning, has been a good way to make it through the madness of our political scene!

How do you plan to loosen your grip in 2021? What attachments are exhausting you? Where can you find more ease? Be a little nicer to yourself?

I’m looking forward to seeing you on the mat soon.
